Did Vijay Mallya, the former airline and liquor baron, tell Finance Minister Arun Jaitley he was leaving for the UK? The Congress says so, and Rahul Gandhi has decried “a clear-cut case of collusion”.

Jaitley first claimed he never met Mallya, but Mallya met him and informed him that he was going to London, Rahul Gandhi said today. Why, the Congress president asked, didn’t the finance minister inform the Central Bureau of Investigation or the Enforcement Directorate? The CBI and the ED are investigating allegations of financial irregularities against Mallya.

“Mr Jaitley is lying; the government is lying”, Gandhi said.

He also asked why the look-out circular saying Mallya should be detained was downgraded.
